The Adams County Historical Society was formed in 1978 for the sole purpose of preserving the New Meadows Train Depot. The Pacific and Idaho Northern Railway built the depot in 1911-12. The bracketed Italianate, two-story structure was larger than a town like New Meadows needed because it was designed to house the P & IN Railroad’s general offices At the time of its construction, the P& IN was expected to run rails to Northern Idaho, giving the state its first north-south rail services. The plans never materialized and the New Meadows Depot became the end of the line.
