The “Trappers Cabin” was built in the late 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which had a large camp at lake Walcott in Minidoka County. The lave rock cabin was used by government trappers to prevent depredation of local sheep by coyotes. In august of 1996 a lightning strike stared a wildfire, which destroyed 600 acres of the wildlife habitat and burned the roof, window and casements and wood floor of the cabin.
