Rupert Depot (EIRR)
Rupert Depot (EIRR)
The Rupert Depot was built in 1906 for $4500. The building was later remodeled and the living quarters made into a large waiting room for passengers. In 1936 a freight depot was added and in 1978 the freight office was added. The Depot was moved to its present location in September of 1989. The depot has an excellent collection of lanterns used by the railroad, a conductor’s uniform and a brakeman’s uniform. It also has a working telegraph plus working signal arms used to signal the trains. The outdoor display includes a caboose, several freight cars and a railroad telephone booth. The collection also includes displays of timetables, tickets, silver, plates, and napkins. A large map of the Oregon Short Line plus a scale model train display shows the route from Minidoka through Rupert, Burley, Twin Falls, then back to Shoshone.
