Rock Creek Ranch was homesteaded by several families in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and has been continuously ranched since then.  It is believed the Schmidt family built the barn in 1921.  Today The Nature Conservancy and the Wood River Land Trust own the ranch.  The Natural Resources Conservation Service holds a Grassland Reserve Program easement on the property to protect the ecosystems while maintaining grazing values, wildlife habitat, and protection against future development.  The property is managed in conjunction with the University of Idaho in support of their research and education.  The partnership plans to restore the barn for use as a classroom and educational center.
