The Captain John Mullan Statue in Post Falls is one of seven statues marking pioneer John Mullan’s building of the 624-mile Mullan Road through Idaho. The Mullan Road was the first engineer road in Idaho. It crossed the rolling hills of eastern Washington, the panhandle of Idaho and the plains of Montana, connecting Fort Benton on the Missouri River to Fort Walla Walla, near the Columbia River. William Clark, Jr. dedicated the 14-foot marble monuments, designed by Western frontier artist Edgar S. Paxton.
