The Victor depot was constructed in 1914 as the southern terminus of the Teton Valley Branch of the Oregon Short Line railroad, a subsidiary of the Union Pacific railroad. The depot provided freight and passenger service to the southern end of the Teton valley and was the primary entranceway into Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In 1927 when Congress authorized the creation of Grand Teton National Park, it sparked an increase in visitation and the development of a dude ranch industry. Along with the earlier constructed Yellowstone Branch of the Oregon Short Line to West Yellowstone, the two branches were the primary means of entering the parks from the west.
