Seventy miles southeast of Salmon City, in the Texas Mining District, on a spacious and windy sagebrush plain, stands what is left of Gilmore, Idaho – the largest of the lead-silver (galena) mining settlements in Lemhi County and the largest lead-silver producer in the state after the Coeur d’Alene Mines. The Lemhi County Historical Society now owns the Gilmore Mercantile building.
