As early as 1923, a lookout man worked at Granite Mountain, and was the only site where the smoke chaser did not use horses because of the steep terrain and lack of water and grass.  Constructed in 1929 as an R4 Plan 80, a standard plan of the 1930’s and 1940’s.  It is eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
