Custer Ice House
Established in 1870 by Sammy Holman, Custer was a narrow one street town that nestled along the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River.  In 1880 a thirty stamp mill was built on the upper edge of town.  It was the largest stamp mill in the district.  By 1911 Custer was a ghost town.  In 1981, Custer Townsite and its remaining 11 structures were listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Location: If you are coming from Stanley turn left at Sunbeam to Bonanza to Custer (& Bonanza).  Custer ghost town is located on Forest Service Road 070 in the Salmon Challis National Forest.  Custer is located in a high mountain valley beside the Yankee Fork River.
