“The Hat” is one of the most important, high-visibility sites in the Stuenenberg Historic District. The structure is the surviving interurban transit shelter erected by the Boise Valley Traction Company in the 1920s. Along with a few pieces of surviving track embedded in old concrete sidewalks in Caldwell, “the Hat” is the last remnant of the once regionally important Interurban electric trolley care system that connected Caldwell, Nampa, Boise and Middleton in an early twentieth-century transportation loop.
