Dr. William Judson Boone, a professional theologian and educator, founded Idaho’s first private institution of higher education, the College of Idaho, at Caldwell. At the C of I he taught botany, Latin and mathematics, helped design and construct buildings, recruited faculty and raised funds, stoked the furnace, and took photos. The Trust has helped College of Idaho collect and restore his extraordinary 46-year output of photography. The pictures establish a visual history of Caldwell and surrounding areas and are invaluable as records of southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon history. These negatives, prints and panoramic photos, often six foot high and 48 inches wide, are excellent portrayals of the landscape, people of the places of the early 1900s.
